He Who Teaches Learns The Most

There is an old Chinese proverb, “He who teaches learns the most.” So true, so true in my case. After many years of working in the corporate world, I returned to college and received a Master of Science in Education Degree. I taught elementary, junior-high, and high school students. HOWEVER, MY GREATEST CHALLENGE AND LONG-LASTING EDUCATION came from teaching young adults in alternative education settings. I learned so much. The tree of knowledge began to grow within me and made me want to know people––the real person. I don’t know where these students are today, but their pain, aspirations and hope live within me. I have included some of their words in this compilation. I always told my students that education is still the great equalizer. Regardless of what situation in life you find yourself, education can make the difference––not just going to school but learning, applying yourself, self-educating, becoming life-long learners. PREPARATION + OPPORTUNITY = SUCCESS. Concentrate on preparation because if you are adequately prepared, you will make your own opportunity if need be. This book is divided into four parts: 1. My research on Advance Organizers I am a proponent of advance organizing. I learned early on that if you were not fully prepared and did not have constructive, probing instruction for you students each day, you were in serious trouble. In short, if you didn’t have something for them, they certainly had something for you––class disruptions and all kind of destructive behavior in the classroom.
