Min(ɘ)d Games

“Rachel,” he whispered. “It’s time.”
She took a slow, deep, breath, just like he had taught her, and sat up. Her eyes drifted over the crowded plaza. He was here. Somewhere.
And she would find him.
She would find him, and she would end him.
She would make herself safe.
“Rachel.” He took her hand and placed the revolver in it. “You are ready.”
She could do that now. She was strong enough.
He believed in her.
She could do anything.

As the car door closed he sat back and watched. The beautiful woman walked purposefully into the plaza, the designer sheath dress gave her silhouette an elegant, classic, feminine appeal. She was poised and determined- a woman reminiscent of a more sophisticated era.
He waited a moment and then nodded to the driver who handed him a burner phone. He dialed a number that would only be used once and then discarded.
“Yes?”
“It’s time,” he said and snapped the phone shut.
He nodded to the driver, and the black SUV casually pulled away.
They were just turning off of the main road when they heard the gunshots and the screaming. The man pulled out a small, black leather, notebook and jotted down a few notes.
The driver just kept going.
