“What happened? I was 30-31 years of age. Being married for about ten years, I had arrived at a place where I could no longer repress my pent-up emotions. One example, I would be standing at my kitchen sink to wash dishes and I would begin to cry. I had no idea, or reason I could understand, for the crying. An anxiousness would rise up in me, and I would feel like something inside was going to burst. My inclination was to physically run as hard as I could. But I didn’t run, instead I worked more and more. My Friday nights were spent on the sofa watching TV, eating too much and gaining weight. I did not know what was wrong with me. As a person who was such a people pleaser, I would do things for other family members or acquaintances without thought of my own needs. I could not say no. When does one say no to another person?
I certainly did not know the answer to that question. My thought was, obviously and surely if I say no, they won’t like me and I would be a selfish person. Obsessively, I second-guessed myself and would replay in my mind circumstances and conversations involving other people. Had I done or said the right thing? What must they think of me, of Charlie or of our family? I felt like everything negative that happened, or if a loved one was unhappy, it was all my fault and my
responsibility to fix it. Of course, these thoughts took place inside of me. I concluded that something must be wrong with me, or I must be defective. Maybe something is wrong with my brain? I had no idea what to do or how to help myself.
I had a choice to make.”

About the Book
For author Linda Kay, the confusion and anger dumped into her life through childhood sexual abuse beginning at age twelve; it was like an unidentified poison to her soul. This trauma affected her emotional development, and without understanding it, she lived a shame-based life. In addition, her husband’s alcoholism ten years into their marriage compounded the emotional and mental suffering.
But, at age thirty, she hit an emotional bottom. Kay began fighting her way out of her cocoon and started the healing journey toward freedom and living.
In New Day, New Year, New Life, she shares her story, telling about her healing openly and candidly, while explaining what her life was like then and what it is now. Meant to empower and inspire, Kay offers insight into her healing and provides a host of resources to help others undergoing the same challenges.
About the Author
Linda Kay worked in various administrative roles for forty-three years where she did a lot of writing, primarily in policies and procedures related to accounting and human resources. She also volunteered for years in self-help organizations where she listened to hundreds of personal stories. She received training and facilitated or co-facilitated group meetings. Today, she walks in freedom as a survivor whose desire and drive to live a better life was, at times, overwhelming.
