Organizational Restructuring is a major change strategy commonly used to respond to changes in the business environment (Jones & Matthew, 2010; Bowman & Singh, 1993). It is “a process by which managers change task and authority relationships, and redesign organizational structure and culture to improve organizational effectiveness” (Jones & Matthew, 2010, p. 298). Organizational restructuring may be either internal, which includes technology upgrading, mergers, job layoffs, closing divisions or external, which includes asset disposal, acquisitions, divestures, start-ups, and closure of plants (Bowman & Singh, 1993; Hakkala, 2006).). The focus here, nonetheless, is two-fold: (1) from an organizational restructuring perspective, it is about improving efficiency, reducing cost, and facilitating job growth (Fu, Chang, & Wu, 2001; Probst, 2003); (2) from an economic perspective, it is about the steps business executives can take to survive an economic down-turn.

About the Author
Dr. Zaziiz S. L. Dinkins is a retired United States Air Force Captain who served as the Director of Personnel for the New Jersey Air National Guard State Headquarters (NJANG), McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, and also as a Program Manager at the Air and Space Basic Course School (ASBCS), Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Dr. Dinkins founded O R Business Consulting which provides Business Managers and Leaders with an evaluation of their organizational performance and makes substantive recommendations for improvement. She is the author of Organizational Restructuring and Job Growth: A Predictive Correlational Study which has been published in the University of Phoenix’s library via Pro Quest. Dr. Dinkins lives in Mount Royal, New Jersey with her family.
