This principle is responsible for the book’s structure. The exercise of virtue and the avoidance of wrongdoing are prime themes of this masterpiece of consecrated literature. The objective of this book is to describe the basic training formula for living a consecrated life. As you read the formula, you will learn that being holy, arriving at the sanctity of life, is not conditional, wishful thinking, nor something that only a select group is called to, but all. “But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage].” (1 Peter 1:15 AMPC) Holiness is not the privilege of the few but the duty of all.
Revealing and challenging, The Depths of Consecration is a devotional book. The Depths of Consecration extols the need for a higher level of consecration and holiness to God. We must put away this average standard of ordinary religious life and awaken to our high calling. As believers, we need to exemplify purity, benevolence, and Christian consecration in walk and conduct. In the times of old believers met God. They knew Him, walked with Him, had the clear and full consciousness that they had dealings with God of heaven and had too, through faith, the assurance that they and their lives were pleasing to Him. God is looking to see that in His people in this time. God is looking for vessels to live a life of holy consecration unto Him.
“I appeal to you, therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1 AMPC).
Consecration means total self-giving to God. Consecration helps us shine as sure and attractive models of total self-giving to God. “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 AMP).
These pages in this book show readers the importance of purity of intention and complete consecration to God. The writing in this book introduces the height, breadth, and depth of the law of God’s requirements, having a keen sense of the difference between the letter and the spirit. We must know the law of God’s consecration. And we must also know the law of our own level of consecration that God is calling us into individually. The law of God is not a lifeless code but a life-giving gift that reflects the excellency of the divine being. We must all be devoted to God, to give Him all our soul, body, and substance.
Consecration is a devotion to the will of God. It is a readiness to do, not what we want to do in His service, but what He gives us to do.
Luke 22:42 (NLT): “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Acts 21:14 (ESV): “Let the will of the Lord be done.”
Consecration is about living a crucified life, suffering, and surrendering.
The Depths of Consecration provides a formula for bringing mankind into a deeper place of consecration and a place of absolute surrender. The spirit of the world consists essentially in the denial of God’s supreme domination, a denial manifested by sin and disobedience. Thus, it is principally opposed to the spirit of Christ.
Through the entire Depths of Consecration, I desire to teach mankind to love holiness, purity, and prayer. These principles are responsible for the book’s constructions. Without living holy unto God, you cannot experience transformation from God. The last part of the book treats two necessary virtues of the prayer-filled life; detachment and love.
May this book stir up every reader to awaken and quicken them to live consecrated unto God
