The Dappled Trail
I love the trail, the dappled trail,
When all the trees are green,
With verdant hues more brilliant
Than I have ever seen.
Ferns, moss, and flowers
Lift faces to the sun.
Leaves adorn the branches
As over the path I run.
I love the trail, the dappled trail,
When all the trees are gold.
The filtered sun glitters,
And is marvelous to behold.
Down the gentle hillside,
Covered with leaf and rock,
I hear a crunchy cadence
As over the path I walk.
I love the trail, the dappled trail,
When all the trees are white.
A glistening, silvery snowfall
Covers everything in sight.
Icicles sparkle; branches droop;
Bears have long gone to bed.
Cleats assure a safe journey,
As over the path I tread.
I love the trail, the dappled trail,
At every time of year.
For in the quiet of the woods,
I can always hear
The voice of God the Creator
Speak softly to my soul.
I join the trees in worship,
As over the path I stroll.

About the Book
Reflections from the Heart is a compilation of poems and songs written by Sandy King. Some will make you smile, many will make you think, but all should encourage a thankfulness for life and a desire to walk closer to our creator, God. All of the photographs in the book were taken by friends and family members, and many are from Alaskan locations.
About the Author
Sandy (Nicholls) King was born in Yakima, Washington, the middle child of five. Shortly after her marriage, she received a BA from Central Washington College. Her husband, Ron, took a job in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1976. They planned to stay for one year, but the Last Frontier became their permanent home. The photograph on the front cover was taken at the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, where the family lived for twenty-five years. They now reside on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Sandy has taught a variety of subjects in private schools and given piano lessons for many years. She has played for churches most of her life, including accompanying a choir that was televised. She sang in and played piano for a group called “The Messengers” for twenty years. They gave concerts in many venues in Southeast Alaska, from tiny villages to the Governor’s Mansion. Poetry has been one of Sandy’s passions since childhood, but it wasn’t until after retirement that she had time to cultivate her gift. Her poems have been well received - appearing online, in newsletters and other publications. She has received many requests for copies, hence came the decision to compile them into a book. This volume contains lessons learned from a lifetime of walking with God.
