I felt like I just hopped off a merry go round in mid spin. I could barely lift my head; my poor body lay limp like a newborn fresh out of the womb. My strength floated above my body. There it stayed staring me in the eye, moving in all directions, teasing me, taunting me. If only I had Aaron and Hur to lift my arms like they did for Moses, maybe I too could have fought through my battle named starvation. There I laid a carnivore as my body pulled every ounce of nutrients it had stored, eating me alive, simply to remain alive, how ironic. If you drew a line on a page that would have been me; thin, frail, no design that made me unique. I thought, would my death be the outcome of someone else’s addiction? Depressed, wondering how a mother could not love her child. My right ventricle fought against my left, they wrung each other dry leaving me with no love, and I felt no pain. I built a wall and it was my protection. I’d lay there for some time now, a plastic mannequin praying for Geppetto to bring me to life.

We all know the popular phrase, “The struggle is real.” I know it all too well. An addicted mother, a father that gives you up at every turn, to suffering from depression, and suicidal thoughts. Let the talkers tell it, I was not supposed to amount to anything other than what society defines as a statistic. God had a plan that carried me to the other side so that I could be here to tell my story. Jesus is inserted all up in here; but don’t expect it to be watered down. I was imperative to paint a picture of my worst to show you the magnitude of the Lord. Get your ginger ale, kick up your feet, pull distractions to the side; get ready to laugh, cry, and reflect as I take you on a ride. Watch the statistics be overshadowed by victory!

Precious E. Stone has always been blessed to have a way with words. While other kids were out playing, she had her eyes in encyclopedias and the dictionary. She had a heart for words. What she couldn’t express in speech came through on paper. Her writing style is: honest, no holds barred, raw, but with purpose. She is unafraid to tell her ugly truth.
