Once arrived, they ran labs on Braxton and determined he was severely dehydrated and needed to be placed back in the NICU. At this time, COVID rates were very high, and they would only allow one parent in at a time with the baby. Brandon let me go back first. They placed Braxton in the back of the NICU with the very critical babies. From Braxton’s new bed location, I could see Branson’s bed where he went to be with Jesus. As more doctors and nurses arrived to exam Braxton and do his admission, I was beginning to feel overwhelmed. I felt as if the room was closing in and all I could hear were the alarms of the babies’ beds if their oxygen got too low, or their heart rates went up too high. The sounds of the ventilators and isolators that were helping keep these babies alive, began to overtake my train of thought. I could feel the vibrations of the machines traveling across the floor. I felt the walls closing in on me. My heart began to sink, my mind began to race, I began to panic. I jumped up in the middle of the surgeon talking to me and ran out of the NICU to Brandon in the waiting room and made him go be with Braxton. My heart couldn’t take it. My mind was overwhelmed. I needed them to move Braxton.

About the Author
Hailey Faubion is a Christian wife, mother and nurse. As a wife, she supports and walks alongside her husband, Brandon, who is a high school football coach. As a mother, she encourages and cherishes their two boys, Brock and Braxton. As a family, they encourage spiritual growth and community worship in hopes to one day be reunited with their son Branson again in heaven.
