The Glue
Mother: the glue that kept us stable,
The glue that bound us together,
The glue that still held us strong over the years,
The glue that binds us to this day,
The glue whose loving hands extend over time
Like a chain link, linking time and statuses,
A love built to endure the hostile winds of fate and misfortune, even death—
The glue is permanent, undaunted, and powerful.
The matriarchal glue is in all her offspring.
It’s our mother, our friend, our fierce defender.
Always willing to fight our battles, unafraid to lose in the process,
She’s like the wind beneath our wings. She soars with us at every height.
We miss your beautiful smile, your laughter, and your love.
Our lives are enriched because of your bountiful richness in spirit.
Together and forever we will hold you dearly in our hearts.
The glue, Mother, will live on forever in our world.
We salute you for all that you did for your children. Bind us with your love.

About the Author
Colin Gilbert Skeete, Sr. was born in the South American country of Guyana and eventually immigrated to the United States. He considers himself an unselfish and driven soul who values relationshisp over material wealth and always embraces family ties and lineage. Frozen Dreams: Poems for Colbert is his first volume of poems.
