If someone were to say that I love my country more than Jesus, I would answer how could I do such a thing, because I know that Jesus loved me first and my country does not even know me (unless I owe it taxes). When, however, God has made me part of one of the biggest gifts He has created in the history of His creation, Christ being the best, I owe Him thanks, gratitude, glory, and honor. These are the opening thoughts of my book America Is John the Baptist of Nations. It has taken a lifetime to tell my fellow citizens how this came to be and why it affects all of us.
Like Jonah this is a story of self-doubt, self-insecurity, fear (not from lack of God’s abilities but fear of personal assaults and self-image. The kind of assaults experienced by the Old Testament prophets.) It’s a story of a lifetime of seeing life from a bigger perspective and not concerned with individual concerns, like from a national perspective rather than from person to person. It is a story of wanting to share the peace and love experienced from a heavenly encounter, but always having the reality that our time as a nation has little time left to be an example for the world. It’s a story of picking up bits of information that show why and how America was created by Jesus and why we were created to be a pre-runner for the Kingdom which Christ will establish. As a pre-runner we are the final nation created by Gentiles to see if we can do what the Israelites were not able to do. It’s a story of the two nations with very similar histories. If we can look at history from God’s perspective, I believe we can find a lot of similarities. For example, I doubt that God sees much of a difference between the Red Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Now there may not be much difference between the final days of the two nations. Both will result from sins against what God has blessed us with. You will read how Scripture attempted to save Israel and how it is warning us.
How shall I describe this generation? …They are like a group of children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends (Luke 7:31–32). Today, people act like children, distorting the truth, such as changing emails and changing dates of emails, like what was done for the second impeachment trial of former president Trump. They refused to tell the whole story by omitting parts of statements or not showing the complete videos used during the impeachment trial. This is an example of how I intertwine scripture and current events as did the Old Testament prophets. (The message to the prophets came from God whereas my message from God comes from Scripture.) As I point out throughout the book, I do not search for scripture to support my personal views of today’s social conditions. I follow my daily scripture readings: from the Book of Psalm, then to a historical book, followed by a New Testament book. Using this method, I’m not trying to advocate any kind of theological or political view. I am simply highlighting what I have read in the books I am reading and what I hear on the news with the scripture I read. My experience has proven to me that I can find scripture to support anything I want, but that does not mean that the scripture that I find to support my thinking is what God would say to me if he was standing next to me. That is why I follow my daily, scripture pattern of reading to determine what I read from His word says anything about what had taken place either from the news or from the books I was reading. My experience has proven that the majority of times God does not speak in politically correct tone, that is I may not like what he tells me, and I have to recognize His ideas and plans often times don’t agree with mine, but He has the power to accomplish his purposes. You may not like some of the things I’ve written, but remember Christ came to Paul after He had departed from his friends and Apostles and Paul used his knowledge as a former Pharisee and what he learned about Christ to spread the Good News, and many did not like what he spoke also remember how the Old Testament prophets were treated because his fellow citizens did not lie what they were told. I’m not doing this to win friends and influence I challenge you to read this and decide for yourself.
