Garden of Stone
Today I went and sat amongst them alone
Surrounded by the monuments in a garden of stone
On this field among the honored dead
I watered the grass with the tears I shed
Never wanting them to be alone
As they sleep in this garden of stone
Loved ones come from near and far
Their loss a fresh wound never to scar
As they rest in honored sleep
A vigil amongst them I do keep
Here no sound but the wind as it moans
Whistling through this garden of stone

About the Book
This book was written as a form of therapy to help recover from combat related stress and post traumatic stress. The poems are raw expressions of the feelings from seeing the unromantic side of war, while learning to walk in faith, with the love of my wife Mary.
About the Author
Jimmy Hammond is a combat veteran with multiple deployments, Having served just short of 20 years both in the army and as a law enforcement officer he has seen and done many things. He is a graduate of Liberty University’s Master of Science Criminal Justice program and currently teaches criminal justice at Killeen High School and Central Texas College. He lives near Fort Hood, TX with his beautiful wife Mary and their six children.
