“My Walks with Remi - Book Two” is the second book of devotions written by Cindy J. Anderson. Inspired by stunning color photos of nature taken during Cindy’s walks with her Portuguese Water Dog, Remi, she invites her readers to see God’s presence around them in a unique and thought-provoking way. The photos in each devotion will become visual cues for the reader in their everyday life to remind them of the life-lesson illustrated in each devotion. Walking with Remi amidst his beautiful surroundings in Southern California will help the reader experience God’s artistry in the soaring mountains, the sparkling blue of the Pacific Ocean, and the vibrant light that shines on the American Riviera, which makes colors pop against the backdrop of the clear, azure-blue sky.

About the Author

Cindy Anderson has been involved in ministry her entire life. As an educator, Bible study leader, and art docent, Cindy enjoys helping people find meaning in what’s in front of them, whether a text, Bible passage, piece of art, or an image in nature. Cindy has a B.A. from Augustana College (IL) in Elementary and Secondary Education and French and a M.A. in French Language and Literature from Northern Illinois University. Her skill in analyzing French literature has translated into a talent for seeing images in nature and applying God’s life-lessons to them. She invites her readers to look for God’s presence in the beauty found in everyday life. A native of St. Charles, IL, Cindy lived in Connecticut and Kansas before moving to Southern California. She is fortunate to be surrounded by God’s artistry and enjoys life with her husband, who is her college sweetheart, and her affectionate companion, Remi.

I was SO looking forward to the release of Anderson’s second devotional, My Walks with Remi Book Two – and it’s here!!! The insight she shares as she perceives God nudging her to Look at that! or Look over there! as she accompanies her dog, Remi, on his walks through nature, is both uplifting and thought provoking. Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover?! Being a fan of canines, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the book BECAUSE of its cover and appreciate the God-inspired thoughts Anderson and Remi share with us all.

My Walks with Remi book two flows beautifully. This is a wonderful compliment to Book One. I keep both devotional gems close at hand to pick up when I need them. The truth is that we are not born perfect. We struggle, and at times we fail. But God is the perfect guide. He can lead us through every situation, and He has a plan for our life. The natural beauty of Santa Barbara provides many opportunities to see God as creator and the photos add a lot to the devotional. I was struck too by Cindy’s descriptions of how God often meets us in new ways as we go about the rhythms and routines of our days - a verse we’ve read dozens of times can take on fresh meaning, a street we’ve walked every day can suddenly spark an insight of biblical truth. Having read and frequently reread the author’s first book, My Walks with Remi- Book 1, I couldn’t wait to buy the author’s next book. After reading the new devotions in Book 2, I am truly inspired and grateful to have found this author. I appreciate how the author finds inspiration, encouragement and faith in the most obscure things in nature which most of us would not even notice. I love reading and thinking about how scenes and elements of nature perfectly fit into the themes of God’s love and care for us. Each devotion starts with and is tied to a scripture. The photographs in this book are gorgeous. This devotional book is one that I will read and reread no matter what my mood or situation in my life, it applies to all our days. It is encouraging and motivating when I might be feeling down, as well as enhancing my happiness when I feel blessed by God. When feeling great, this is a wonderful book to reflect on ways to give thanks to God. This book has something for everyone at various times of their life. I recently moved to a new city, and I have loved the devotions which discuss the experiences of the author in moving to new locations. The devotion entitled “Community” is just one example of what is a perfect match for me right now. It discusses the importance of having relationships and the fact that we can often help ourselves to find new friends and groups by helping others. The reflections in this chapter are action items which I can do immediately to increase my sense of community in my new location. The reminder to be open to new opportunities that may come my way to be part of a group is exactly what I need to remember. The suggestions are encouraging in motivating me to reach out confidently and with compassion, kindness and helpfulness to others and in the process to find for myself a new sense of belonging. I also especially like the “Special Moments” devotion that encourages us to reflect on the special moments of our lives and how to recognize and notice them. They can even be ordinary moments that upon reflection are actually precious because they are fleeting since our time here on earth is finite. The author notes that the more we notice the small blessings of each day, the more of them we will recognize and find God in them. We all need to be reminded of that every day, because we all get so distracted by daily life. I like the author’s suggestion of writing down those special moment “treasures” in a journal as they appear to us. I highly recommend this beautifully written book to everyone, it is something that you will return to again and again. If you will undertake the suggestions in the “Reflections” section of each devotion, your life will become richer and more meaningful.

As I was reading this devotional, many of the author’s personal anecdotes and messages stuck out to me but one in particular seemed to come at the right time. The idea that we were made to stand out and be God’s hands in this world because this world is not our home, and at times, things happen that we could have never foreseen. We have to be willing to lose everything for our Lord and savior, our friends, our livelihoods, our sense of security. Because at the end of the day, they were never ours to begin with but wonderful gifts from God. So if you are in a valley of your life at the moment, and things seem overwhelming and that there is no way out, pick up this devotional and reflect on the author’s words. I know it is difficult, and sometimes it is hard to even do the little things, but we know the end of the story. Our Lord God will triumph, we just need to place our trust in him.

My Walks with Remi Book Two is absolutely wonderful! I enjoyed Book 1 and I have to say I have enjoyed Book 2 just as much or more. Cindy Anderson is a master at taking us along her walks with her beautiful dog, Remi and finding inspiration in nature. She is able to pair her walks with Remi and the obvious and sometimes not so obvious beauty she sees with scripture and an inspirational message. I have found myself using her reflection prompts in my journaling. I love starting my morning with My Walks with Remi and I can't wait to gift it to friends and family!

After reading the first devotional book My Walks with Remi, I looked forward to reading Book Two, it exceeded my expectations. I have always enjoyed seeing God in nature, and seeing how related scripture passages can bring out spiritual truths. My Walks With Remi: Book Two is the perfect follow up to Cindy Anderson’s first devotional. As in the original, the author beautifully combines prayer, scripture, her faith based insight, and thought provoking questions with incredible photographs of her beloved dog and nature. One of my favorite things to do is to go on walks in area parks and forest preserves. I find that seeing God’s creation draws me closer to Him. With Anderson’s devotional a new level is reached as she opens my eyes to God’s word and promises through her walks. I especially appreciated these reflections at the end of each devotion. My Walks with Remi Book Two is a beautifully written and illustrated devotional inspired by Cindy Anderson’s daily walks with her faithful dog and beloved companion, Remi. I have been inspired by her messages of hope, encouragement and assurance of God’s love and faithfulness as Cindy weaves together scripture, prayers, photography and opportunities for reflection. Her words spoke to me in a personal way as I felt peace amidst some of the difficulties I have experienced recently. I also felt challenged to be bolder in sharing my faith and she offers practical suggestions on ways to do that. No matter where we are in our faith journey these thoughts will uplift, encourage and provide tangible ways to apply God’s truths to our lives. I definitely will be re-reading it and purchasing as gifts for friends and family! My Walks with Remi (both book 1 and 2) are a refreshment to the spirit!

After reading and rereading the first edition of "My Walks with Remi", I hoped that Cindy Anderson would write a sequel - and she has! We are once again privileged to accompany Cindy and her beloved dog, Remi on their daily walk, as they pause to admire a canopy of bougainvillea, a crystal blue sky, a fallen leaf and other special moments. Cindy then links the observations to Scripture passages and provides us with tangible, real-life examples of God's Word and His works. I loved each of the devotions and was particularly moved by "Find the Shade", which speaks to our need for rest, and "A Shadow by My Side" which reminds us that we are never alone with Jesus Christ at our side. I'm sure that as I reread the book, I'll find new favorites, as all of the devotions have daily relevance and meaning. I've already purchased several copies of "My Walks with Remi - Book Two" for family members and plan to order more to give as Christmas gifts to the women in my Small Group. I know that they'll enjoy Cindy's devotionals as much as I have, and hope that you will too.
