The man answered, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
—Luke 10:27 (NLT)
How do we love God? This question may sound elementary, but once this question is answered, we are on our way to developing a solid relationship with God. We will talk more about this question and a few others later in this book. First, we develop a relationship with God by focusing on Him and loving Him. Second, we add our love to the community and love our neighbors as we love ourselves. God is love, and He deserves to be approached with adoration.
Have you ever had to make a major decision or even a not-so-major decision? Of course you have. Before I start doing anything that is life changing, I saturate it in prayer while being in the presence of Holy Spirit and seeking God’s face. One way that works for me is telling God who He is and what He means to me.
The prayer of adoration is a necessary part of my prayer life. I attended a three-day prayer conference in October 2015, and I thank Pastor Jackson, senior pastor of Fervent Prayer Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, for being obedient to God and facilitating this awesome conference. In one of the workshops, Pastor Jackson taught the class how to approach God in prayer. We come to God in adoration, telling Him how wonderful He is and what He means to us.
This book contains my personal words of adoration to my Daddy God. I encourage you to start a journal listing every word that God means to you, and tell him often. For your convenience, I left space for you to add your personal words to this book. I started with the letter A and went through the entire alphabet. You can spend a significant amount of time in the prayer of adoration before going on to the other four parts of prayer (confession, thanksgiving, supplication, and interceding). I am always adding words to my list because what God means to me is never-ending.
Giving God time in the prayer of adoration shows Him how important He is to me.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path. Be not wise in thine own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil. (Proverbs 3:5–7 KJV)
I see why my grandmother loved this scripture. We show God how much we love and trust Him by spending time with Him and being obedient to His Word. What better way to spend time with God, telling Him how wonderful He is and what He means to us?
I have spent hours with God in the prayer of adoration. The more time we spend with God, the less time we spend leaning toward our own understanding. If we acknowledge God in everything that we do, He will lead us along the right path.
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7 NLT)
The fewer cares we have to think about, the more peace we have, and that means we can hear from God more quickly.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6–7 NLT)
Start your prayer time giving God adoration. Open your mouth and voice the words in this powerful little red book. I pray that you are blessed just as these words have blessed me and helped me to have a more meaningful relationship with my Daddy God. I pray this book brings you closer to God as you spend hours telling him how important He is in your life. Amen.
