Bacon Wrapped Dates

This is a great appetizer with a salty and sweet taste, easy to make, and a party favorite. Serve hot or at room temperature.

1 package thick cut bacon

1 package pitted dates

Toothpicks (optional)

Preheat oven to 375°F. Place the bacon on a cutting board. Slice the bacon down the middle so that each strip is cut into an approximately 4 x 1” piece. Wrap one slice of bacon around each the date. Begin with the fattest end of the bacon wrapping it around the date. If you are using toothpicks, insert a toothpick through the end of the bacon at an angle to secure the end. Put the date on a large baking sheet with the seam of the bacon facing down. Repeat until all the dates are wrapped and placed on the baking sheet approximately 1” apart.

Bake at 375°F for about 15-20 minutes until the bacon is browned and slightly crispy. Remove from oven and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the oil. Transfer dates to a serving plate. The dates can be served warm or at room temperature. If you are making them ahead of time and they are refrigerated, allow them to come to room temperature before serving. They can be reheated before serving but be careful not to microwave for longer than 15 seconds as the dates may become hotter than the bacon, causing burns. Serves 10-12.
