Chapter 1: In Christ, we are a new Creation
When we come to know Christ, we become a whole new creation.
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
The bible is very clear. Before we are saved, we are one person. Then, when we come to know Christ, we become something completely new.
I grew up in a Christian home and knew God from a very young age. I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I became a new creation, but I have been able to see the changes that God makes in me as I continue to live my life for Him.
When I was 10-12 years old, I experienced lots of anger. My anger would lead me to throw things at my siblings and place blame for my anger on my parents. Through time, and the work of The Holy Spirit, I recognized I was angry at God- not my parents. Then, The Holy Spirit helped me control my anger and express it in healthy ways. I can look back and see how much The Holy Spirit changed me and changed the way I felt about my life and God.

The world tells us that our identity is based on our work, our talents, our extra-curricular activities, and our background. We often introduce ourselves by sharing our names and what we do for a living. We often change parts of who we are to fit into the world’s mould. But none of those things actually define who we are. We are not our jobs, our culture or even our relationships. We are made in the image of Christ and are called to so much more than what we can imagine.

About the Author
Anne Markey is a stay-at-home mom using God’s gifts to serve Him and encourage others.
She was raised on the mission field and saw firsthand the power of God in the lives of people. Serving alongside her parents gave her a hunger for God’s word and a desire to serve Him. She grew up counseling at camps, teaching Sunday school and pitching in where help was needed.
Over the years, she has planned many ladies’ events and led many bible studies. She has had the privilege to work with women of all ages and stages.
Anne has a Bachelors of Arts Degree and a Bachelors of Education degree. She uses her experience and her education to build relationships with women and lead them in studying the Bible.
Her passion is to help women understand the bible and equip them to apply it to their lives. She longs for women to learn who God is and to encourage each other across generations.
This is the first bible study Anne has published and looks forward to writing more as The Lord leads. She has launched her online Bible study community called Digging Deeper Christian Community. The community is designed to support and guide women through their walk with God.
Digging Together Christian Community offers Bible studies with workbooks, biblical teaching, bible reading plans, bible study strategies and more. The community is also built to bring women from all walks of life together to create fellowship, support and receiving wisdom from each other.

Anne and Greg have been married for 14 years, have three children and call Alberta home. Anne loves to read and getting together with friends. She enjoys watching her children grow and seeing God work in their lives and the lives of others.
