The Popping Pines

As they entered the pine trees, there was an unusual sound in the air. A soft popping sound came from the top of the trees.
Kenna stopped suddenly and curiously looked to the top of the trees. She asked, “Aunt Lisa, are those trees popping popcorn? Let’s climb to the top and eat some!”
Aunt Lisa responded, “It sure sounds like popcorn, but I don’t think that’s the popping sound.”
Lexi lit up and exclaimed, “I know! The magpies are having a tea party, and their glasses are clinking together. Let’s go join the tea party!” Trying to climb the tree, Kenna and Lexi giggled as they thought about the magpies.
They continued to walk further into the pine trees when Aunt Lisa picked up a pinecone. Showing it to the girls she explained, “Actually, the sound you hear is the pinecone. All winter long it has been closed up. It has held its seeds lightly so they could grow and mature. Now the season is changing, and it’s time for the seeds to be released. The popping sound is the pinecone opening up and releasing the seed. That seed will fall to the ground and become its own pine tree one day.”

About the Book

About the Author
Lisa and her husband Mike moved overseas when their four kids were in their childhood. They learned a new culture and made new friends. Many of those friends became family, and Lisa became Aunt Lisa to many children. Lisa holds a B.A. in English from Georgetown College and a M.A. in Pastoral Counseling from Regent University. She and her husband, Mike, are empty nesters with their dog “Tuck” (short for their home state of Kentucky), and Lisa enjoys cooking, traveling, and walking in forests.
