The Presence of Noise

We had a picnic lunch for the children on that day and many parents appeared to be with their child as we said goodbye to our charges. Not a dry eye was to be seen that day as I unzipped the top of the Butterfly Garden. As the butterflies were lifted on the soft breeze, there were shrieks of delight that hung on the butterflies like tails on a kite. As I think of the emotions of this day, I’m reminded of the last day of school each year as I hugged and kissed each little one goodbye. I had been their teacher, friend, protector and biggest fan for a whole year. As I watched through teary eyes, I knew they were taking part of my heart with them that last noisy day. As I glanced toward the sidewalk, there stood more teachers amid the noise with the same teary smile and I knew God gives special hearts to teachers: always big enough to love one more child, hearts that love each child as their own and hearts that have to say goodbye every May. To have a teacher’s heart is a priceless treasure!
