God desires the very heart of people. The Bible makes a statement in the book of Proverbs that says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). If your heart is right, then your life will be right. The issues of life stem from the heart. Therefore, the heart matters. The heart is deceitful above all things and is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9).
There is a constant war going on inside us between the nature of the spirit and the nature of the flesh. The flesh wars against the spirit (Galatians 5:17). The nature of the flesh says that there are things that do not matter. It takes scriptures out of context—or even out of the book altogether—to advance its own agenda or doctrine. It says that there is no consequence for disobedience or even sin. It wants to live life according to feelings, emotions, and worldly wisdom.
