Our emotional scars cannot heal unless we become self-aware of how they affect us. Once we acknowledge our old wounds and the scars that linger, we must find the desire to embrace them, rather than loath them. Sit down and ponder the ways these scars are keeping you chained to heartache, depression, and shame. Meditate on changes you would most like to see in your response to your scars. You must have a strong desire for this change to come to fruition. Be willing to fight for this change. Do not be someone that loves the pitying, sympathetic attention of others. Instead, be the one they admire because of strength and tenacity. Find your core values and strive to make those your focus. Permit these scars to fall into the background. They are your lessons from the past. Allow them teach you.

About the Author
Sharon Worrell Beshears was born and raised in the North Carolina mountains. She is the daughter of a pastor and has been active in her churches, serving as Sunday school teacher, praise and worship team member, youth leader, and nursery coordinator. Sharon worked as a medical laboratory scientist for fifteen years, but primarily devoted her life to raising her son, Zak. She and her husband, Rod, now live in Arizona with their two bulldogs, Kuni and Kora.
