Mattathias moved his family away from Jerusalem to get away from the corruption but when the king’s officers came to Modiin they offered Mattathias riches and reward, but he would not turn his back on his faith. So, they tried recruiting another to take his place, when the man went up to the alter to make the unclean sacrifice Mattathias took the knife from the man’s hand and killed him, then killed the officers in attendance as well. Mattathias stop the sin from occurring at the site of the altar of God. This meant open war with Antiochus IV, after this, whole families would have to leave their homes to live in the wilderness of Israel.
Mattathias was an old man and died a year later but his five sons, grandchildren and other followers continued the struggle. The acts of Mattathias and his sons earned them the name of Maccabaeus which means “the hammerer.

About the Book
Jean’s growing love for the word of God led her to seminary and that work led to religious studies which then led to this work. Everybody see the Menorah and they think of Moses but they miss what God was trying to tell us and reveal to us even now. Every Christian need what God’s Menorah represents in their lives today.
About the Author
Jean obtain her BBA from Langston University at the University Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma and her MTh. and D.D. through Northwestern Seminary. She volunteers in many different venues. Through Church sponsored mission trips and other travels she has been able to visit about 15 countries in 4 continents of the world however her love for Israel has never waned, so she returns again and again to pray at the place God has placed His name.
