Teacher, Help Me
I Got Caught Cheating
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Yesterday was a major test day in Mrs. Columbus’s algebra class. Laura got all the test questions dishonestly from Salina as she headed to the class. She had planned to ace that test, but her plan was thwarted. As Laura slipped her cheat sheet onto her desk, Mrs. Columbus gracefully headed to the chalkboard and changed all the problems! She knew! Who was the whistleblower? Laura struggled with figuring out the answers, so she finally gave up, got up, and turned her paper in. Mrs. Columbus spoke with her quietly and asked her to come back after school. Laura agreed. But before going back, Laura, laden with the burden of guilt, shame, and tears, came by my room to ask for prayer. I prayed, remembering Galatians 6:2 (KJV), which states, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
My Prayer
Dear Lord, this is really about me. I dishonestly received test questions for a test, but I’ve never confessed this or asked for your forgiveness. I never asked for Mrs. Columbus’s forgiveness either. So I’ve lived my life carrying the suppressed burden of guilt and shame for fifty-five years. And I’m asking You, right now, to forgive me so I can be free. In the name of Jesus, I’m asking! Thank You and amen!
My Confession
I confess that I will be patient and willing to forgive a student when caught in a fault or dishonest situation. I will try to be quick to understand but gently remind the student of the long-lasting emotional and physical consequences of such dishonest acts.

1. As an adolescent, did you and one of your classmates plot to get the teacher’s
test?
2. Does the following statement resonate with you in regard to honesty? “You may have succeeded, but you still didn’t win.”
3. How did you advise a student when they were exposed for cheating?

About the Author
Lady Normell Guyden is a Christian educator, born and educated in Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the teaching of the Spanish language, which she taught for twenty-one years. Although she holds a Master of Education degree in Counseling, and a Master of Divinity degree, her prevailing desire is to pray daily for others, and spend extended time communing with Abba Father. She also desires to gain her eternal crown for her home in heaven, and take others with her.
