The Dream
Deep within the cold, hard groundOf the winter deep,A tiny seed lies still and bound,Dreaming while it sleeps.
It dreams of spring times fair and mild,Where sunshine plays on green,Where fields of flowers lift their headsAnd all is new and clean.
It dreams of lazy summer daysWhen life is full and sweet,Of hazy sun and dew-filled nightsAnd all seems so complete.
But then the dreams turn to the fall,The first cold harbinger of death,When springtime memories fade away,When you can see your breath.
Then winter comes, so cold and dark,And lays you in the ground.Spring and summer now are dreams;Time’s lost and no more found.
But then the sleeping seed, it feelsA warmth and senses light;It hears a voice that says, “Come forth!Behold the world of life.”
The seed awakens and beholdsA world that’s bright and newAnd hears the master as He sings,“Behold, the dream is true!”

About the Book
Have you ever watched a beautiful sunset and become absorbed into its hues of red, yellow, blue, pink and purple? Have you ever walked in a forest and listened to the insects, the burbling of a brook or the wind blowing the Autumn-colored leaves? Have you ever felt so alone and aftraid, crying for help from God’s son, to lift you up and bring you to Him? I have experienced all these things and have attempted to capture the feelings I had, and the hope I cherished, in words and verses. These poems were written out of feelings of joy and despair, times of comfort and fear, enduring pain or feeling the golden glow within after praying to Christ for aid. I hope these verses can give you warmth, empathy, gratitude, hope and faith that in the end, God is in charge of all and He will never fail you. That even in human death, He is there; and where He is, there is life.
About the Author
Jesse D. Yeakel, PhD is an active member of a United Methodist Church in Sugar Land, Texas, where he teaches adult Sunday School and sings in the choir. He has been married to the same woman for 46 years and he has two sons and three grandchildren. He was trained as a scientist, receiving a doctorate degree in geology in 1981. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and has lived in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Wyoming, Texas and Nevada. He has studied the Bible and read many books on history, church history, theology, death, Heaven, and Hell. He was influenced most by the works of C.S. Lewis. He enjoys travel, hiking and reading. He currently resides in Richmond, TX.
