I am awakened by a feminine version of Mr. Roger's voice instructing "us" to wake up because "we" have a hungry baby to feed... "well feed it then"!
So began my life (okay, role) as a "nursing mother". I say, "life", because that's what it felt like... a lifetime. The nurse handed my baby to me (I couldn't believe it. She was really mine and oh, so beautifully perfect). The nurse assisted me by appropriately adjusting my anatomy for my mission...to feed; and before I knew it, my beautiful, innocent, big-eyed, 8 1/2 lb. baby girl performed on me what felt like a mastectomy without anesthesia (according to my imagination). She did all of this with just one suck of her tiny, rosebud mouth. It got to the point that whenever she cried to eat, I cried too. What a picture...mother and daughter crying together...but we were bonding.
