Academic studies prepare you for a career, biblical principles, when taken to heart, prepare you for the storms of life. Such was the case for me when I experienced several storms that hit me like a “Minnesota blizzard” (in the words of Max Lucado) to the extent that I was suicidal.
“Lord help” I cried out as I found myself accidentally on the edge of a cliff with a 300 feet sheer drop, with no way up or down.
No sooner than I took my first step off the trail, than I found myself in quicksand.
It could very well have been the tenth time my life was saved.
During this time, I would pray through the psalms. (Psalm 6, 25, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130; 7, 10, 17, 22, 31, 35, 41-43, 54-57, 69-71, 77, 86, 88, 94, 109, 120, 140-143). These psalms were for sin and affliction. I also prayed through psalms for persecution, expressing trust in God, the psalmist integrity, gratitude, adoration expressing God’s goodness and mercy, power, majesty and glory. “Be of good cheer”, the Lord said, It is I, be not afraid”. Finally the Lord said to pray for them and forgive them.
