Life in Color

When Jesus carried the Cross to where He would be crucified, that’s when the colors around us slowly started to shine. When he died and rose on that third day, that’s when every inch of color burst through the ground and wildly covered everything again. The way was made for all things to be made new again. The hiding wasn’t safe anymore but it’s the coming that was.
This unpacking is a lot like moving. Where you trust to leave the old to move into something completely new to you. Jesus looks at us as we come, with so much love in His eyes. He looks at the boxes we bring, and He grabs our hand and takes us through each one. It’s like when you begin to find things you forgot that you had stored away, and you start explaining what each box means to you as you move in. Jesus grabs the box of regret and unravels all the sorrow packed away with it. He listens intently, gently shows you one of His hands, and asks you to touch it. As you feel the nail marks, He says, “It is finished.” (John 19:30 NIV). You feel something is starting to change within you.
You push forward another box, except this one is a little too heavy to move on your own. This box holds all of the fear and shame you’ve continued to carry from place to place. Jesus lifts the box for you and begins to open all you tucked away. Jesus looks at you with agony in His eyes. He listens to you as you share that you feel so ashamed that you’ve never been able to find rest since. Jesus gently shows you His other hand and asks you to touch it. You feel the other nail mark as He says, “It is finished” (John 19:30 NIV).
Jesus knows that there is another box that you left outside the door. You try to convince Him not to look at it, but the pursuit in His eyes is so deep. He picks up the box, holds your hand, and asks you to open it. You pause, knowing this is the box that holds every bit of pain that you’ve experienced. Jesus pulls you in even closer. You take a deep breath and open the box; tears begin to flood your eyes as you release all you have ever held in. Jesus shows you His side and gently guides your hand to touch it. You notice the mark where His side was pierced. He begins to weep with you and says, “It is finished” (John 19:30 NIV).
Can you see it? This is who our Savior is. The beautiful thing about this time of unpacking is the fact that all that you take out will never have to be stuffed back in again. You see, when Jesus sees your boxes, He takes them, and He gives you new boxes to unload and fill your house with in return. These boxes are everything you could have dreamed of or even knew you needed.
