Sacred Rhythms

Individuals value their relationships. Spiritual connections are both vertical and horizontal. God has planted us with others so we can live out a plan to disciple them. Community-building takes time and nurturing. When we work such long days, it seems as though these connections can suffer. If you are one of those who finds yourself strapped for time, with none available, God can help you with a plan. You have to be willing to search for the time. It is possible to create a daily rhythm of weaving threads of kinship to the Father. An occasional text to God may not be sufficient. Think about a move to a new city. You would not stay in the new house forever! Little by little, you would interact with others. There would be shopping, and going to school and work. You would learn about your new village. When you start to embrace the community, you would meet new people. You acquaint yourself with God the same way, one moment at a time.

In this book, I’ve noted that to live deep is to listen and hear the voice of God. The Father desires to be in a relationship with us. He wants us to find rest and peace in him. He is the one who can help us find this. Our circumstances do not matter. We have to be searching and listening to God’s directives. The Word gives us many scriptures to encourage us. In a contemporary translation, we read,

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me, take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me, and you will learn to live freely and lightly. (Matthew 11:28–30 MSG)
