Choosing Our Future

Being human is a marvelous and difficult journey. We are born into and encounter circumstances in life that by definition are beyond our control and not of our choosing. They trigger core emotions that are fundamental elements of our humanity. How we manage our emotions, choose to respond in those situations, and what we learn, creates the story of our lives.

All too often we awake somewhere along our journey and realize that although we have been pushing and pulling on our oars as hard as we know how, our ship is adrift. Perhaps we are not sure where we are headed. Maybe we are not sure we know how to get where we want to go. Or most terribly, we discover our destination is not really the utopia we expected….we have put tremendous effort into seeking something that does not deliver our dreams.

How do we make choices in life that land us on the golden shores of a joyous life, where we leave a lasting legacy for those who come behind us? Without a meaningful vision and map to guide our path, how can we arrive at the life that we long for?

Can you imagine how your life will unfold? Does your vision include making a difference? What will people say about your character and personality? How do you know you are on the right path to reach your vision? When you are gone, will you be legendary, with inspiring stories that people love to share? Will you leave footprints that others aspire to walk in? What will be your legacy?

Each person's self-exploration, choices and journey are unique. Yet we share common challenges, especially in dealing with our emotions. Controlling our emotional responses is one of the important ways we have control in life. It is our best tool for fighting our personal inferno, finding our way to the other side, and building the life we long for.
