Display His Glory

I can remember the nights of worry as a young boy, not knowing what would happen next. I can remember waking up night in and night out on the train station L-ways. My family lived in hotels for years. Also, living in our Astro van is a memory I will never forget. At age five, the year 1995 brought a heat wave. We carried garbage bags of clothes throughout the city, hoping and praying that the next stop would be the stop for good. But that was not realistic for us.

As we were carrying our bags of clothing through the city, my older sister’s friend stopped to see why we had garbage bags of clothes on our backs. Ashamed and embarrassed of the question, my sister ignored her and continued walking.

We eventually arrived at our next stop, which was another shelter. I thought, Does every kid live like this? Living in a shelter, you meet all kinds of people of different nationalities. I saw other people struggling there as well. You see the brokenhearted and the trails that other humans had to endure. I was just another one of them, I felt.
