Over the years during my study of the Bible, particularly in the preparation for this book, I’ve come to realize there’s a treasure that lies within every person. And God desires to not only utilize the treasure He placed there, but also for others in the body of Christ to experience that treasure as well. I’ve learned that it’s only when the love of God that is in Christ Jesus is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit, and then becomes rooted in us, that it is then able to flow through us.
And it’s through this process that we’re able to recognize the value in others, their inherent traits that have been placed in them by their Creator, instead of focusing on their faults as we so often do. We can then recognize their uniqueness (as well as our own) that was given by our Creator, whether it is intellect and our utilization of it, personality, talent, the color of our skin, or the very life itself that we each possess. As well, the purpose for which each of us was created, all contribute to the value that makes us who we are. Our individual uniqueness validates that which God purposed for each of us in accordance with our destiny.
And it’s only through God’s Word working in us with Christ as our example, that we not only learn how to value others, but also know and understand the true biblical meaning of unity, and our part in it. If anyone has a different view than this of their fellow believers in Christ as people, then they must question the totality and depth of God’s Word that is in their heart. Any degree of shallowness that lies within a person’s heart from avoiding fellowship in God’s Word will not only lead away from the path to unity, but also away from the destiny God has for them. For God’s Word in us provides the light that shows us the right path to take toward not only our destiny, but also how that destiny involves the distinctiveness of relationships with those whom He has purposed for us. “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NKJV). Just as there are certain people whom God does not want in your life, there are also those whom He does want you in a relationship with, to some degree or another.
Regarding the Call to unity, until a person learns to value another, they will be ineffective not only in answering the Call to unity, but also in seeing their destiny totally fulfilled. Recognizing the value in other people, in and out of the body of Christ, is vitally important if we are to move forward and fulfill God’s will concerning every aspect of our purpose as well as our part in helping the body of Christ come together.
In order for the body of Christ to genuinely walk as one in a way that’s visible to the world, as well as effective in the world, each person within the body of Christ must first have a true foundational understanding of what unity in Christ is. Once this foundation is set in place, every follower of Christ can begin working towards it with the assurance of the authority of God Himself backing it.

About the Author
Kevin Almond is a conference speaker, author and Bible teacher who has taught across denominational, gender, age, and racial lines for over 30 yrs. His efforts encouraging and teaching people how to walk in unity are well documented through working with numerous church affiliations and national ministry leaders. Kevin has been a key speaker on the National Day of Prayer and is a Certified John Maxwell coach and has authored nine books on unity and destiny. He has developed inter-denominational discipleship strategies for inner-city ministries and sat on multiple committees with community and church leaders. Kevin and his wife Kathleen have been married 39 yrs. and live in Ft. Worth Texas with their son Jonathan.
