Throughout history, the prison population has grown exponentially with women increasingly leading the way in its growth. Despite recent elevation in the prison population, strategies are not being exacted to address this societal problem. For women, the problem not only affects their personal lives, but also the lives of their children and immediate family members. Despite a slight decrease in the overall prison population in recent years, both female offenders and offenders who have breached the conditions of their release are being sent back to prison more frequently. Though there are efforts to create services that provide care continually, the relapse into criminal behavior after women leave the prison system leads to their receiving sanctions or undergoing intervention for a previous crime. Though most studies conducted have focused primarily on male offenders with small samples of women, they have often omitted specifying race as it relates to the ex-offender’s release and transition into society. Also left out are the roles of a spiritual foundation in the lives of women and how the church can help bridge the gaps while playing a vital role in the promotion of successful, productive members of society being transitioned from prison.

About the Book
Cherish Sade White highlights the challenges of women re-entering society after serving time in prison in Redemption Road.
Drawing on her own experiences as an ex-offender, she identifies why so many women exiting the judicial system struggle with turning their backs on crime.
As an ex-offender, she found the road to redemption miry—but not impossible. She offers her personal story along with facts and theories to assist women, and those working with them, in finding redemption from a life of crisis after incarceration.
Today, the author is part of the solution and no longer a part of the problem. Redemption was always the plan of God for her life.
As an ex-offender, the road you take is your choice. You can choose freedom—but freedom is not free.

About the Author
Cherish Sade White is an ex-offender whose past does not determine her future. She is an ordained associate pastor with a Bachelor of Science in business management, a Master of Divinity, and a master’s in human resources. She sits on the credentialing committee for North Carolina and serves as a service team member. She also serves as a PREA volunteer to women exiting the prison system and operates a nonprofit agency known as Redemption Roads.
