Have you even had one of those experiences where you attended something or went somewhere with no particular intention or desire, but realized God put you there? You may have heard something and just knew God intended for you to hear it. Well, one “everyday-usual” Sunday, that happened to me. But that was not out of the ordinary because quite often God speaks to me. God knows that I am a person who has always needed to hear guidance or corrections in my life. However, this particular time the pastor talked about the “thin places”. She mentioned how we may have heard of them before—those places where heaven and earth become very close together. Those places where you know holiness is all around. Instantly, you feel no worry or concern. It is those places of peace and comfort, where you know without a doubt that you are not in control, but God is. You are reminded that the Holy Spirit is in you and around you. The angels are surrounding you and the area you are in. Then the pastor mentioned the words, you know, the “thin place.”
No, I could not remember having heard of the “thin place” before, but I do understand the idea. So I got to thinking; that must be a place like the space between the boulders where God placed Moses, passed by him, and covered him with His hand to shield him. God removed His hand and instructed Moses to look only at his “back parts”, not His face (Exodus 33:23, The Bible, King James Version). Certainly, a holy place was where Elijah went up by a “whirlwind” into heaven, (II King 2: 11, The Bible, King James Version). Heaven definitely came to earth in the place where Jesus Christ was born. According to the Gospels written in The Bible, it was such a Holy place that God’s angels filled the skies and sang praises! God even marked the birthplace with a star, recognizable by others! I think the “thin place” could be where John the Baptist took Jesus and baptized him with water. At that very time, the Spirit of God came down like a dove, with a voice from heaven telling all who were there, in that place, that Jesus was His Son, (Matthew 3: 16-17, The Bible, King James Version). It had to be a place like the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed before he was arrested and crucified. The Gospels in The Bible explain how Jesus talked with God the Father there! But perhaps, the “thin place” is just in any place where we might be. It could be any place where the Holy of Holies, God, the Father reaches down to hold us even closer than usual. Close, really close, to God!
I have been there! Not really realizing the miraculous place, so much, at the time. But it lives with me now. Now I see it, because God the Father and His son Jesus Christ opened my eyes. I needed to see it and remember it every day. It is really hard to have words to describe the “thin place” in the meager words of this world. I have experienced that moment of peace and comfort. That place where I am reminded that I need not worry for my God is in control. Good things or sad things may happen, but I need not worry! A place where I not only know the Holy Spirit is with me and angels are helping me, but that place where heaven is almost on earth. It is the place where I can experience peace while on this earth, now! The place with God that I can never forget! You know, the “thin place”, praises to God! The “thin place”!
I do not consider myself a writer. I really have not even enjoyed reading a lot, except for my Bible. Therefore, I have no words to put in this book except to tell of my experiences with the Lord God. Even these words do not come from me, but from our Lord. I stand amazed and my soul shall ever sing praises to the Lord. Therefore, these words are written to give glory to our Lord, God Almighty and are written for others to see His glory, too. Feel the “thin place”.
