It doesn’t matter what our title, financial situation, age, gender, race, or ethnicity is. We fall. We mess up. We make mistakes. But our falling—thanks be to God and the chances He has given us—can propel us back into right standing. We must remember that no matter how well put together we think we are, we were, at one time, aliens and strangers to God. Our falling is the very reason God wrapped Himself in flesh and came to us as Jesus Christ to fulfill a mission that belonged only to Him. He alone has the answers to our past, present, and future—the plan to reconcile us back to Him.
Today, you may look in the mirror, and the reflection staring back at you is someone you don’t recognize. Today, everything is wrong. Today, you can’t find the calm place. Today, the restlessness is overpowering. Today, you realize that today is the day. You speak to the you in the mirror, but that person is no longer there. She/he does not respond to your calls. Did you lose her/him, or did she/he lose you? How did she/he slip away without your noticing that she/he was no longer there? I have a friend who says, “If you put up with a thing long enough, you become accustomed to it.”
Years have come and gone, yet there remains a restlessness about you. There’s a place in you, in your inner being, in your core that you can’t calm. You can’t identify it or put a name to it. It’s just there—a forgotten place, a place that needs your attention but has been buried and neglected for so long because of the cares of life. It is now rising. It wants to breathe. It wants to live again. It has something to say and something to do. It has risen to a full crescendo and wants to claim its rightful place. It’s you.
You want your life to have intent, purpose, and substance. You want your life to have life. Presently, it’s just a series of repetitious actions—some necessary, some not—actions with little focus or meaning. You have become accustomed to routine, to things being this way because that’s how they’ve always been. There’s a silent scream, that only you can hear. Your light has dimmed—it’s still there but dimmer. Enough!
“How did I get here? What happened to me?” you ask the mirror, as if the mirror will give you the answers you seek—the who, what, when, where, and why of life. “Who am I? What has happened? When did it happen? Where did it happen? Why did it happen?”
Who am I? You are who you have allowed yourself to be.

About the Book
There was not any one issue that prompted the birth of this book. But a myriad of life issues that caused me to seek answers that would resolve or give me peace in those situations. Family issues, work issues and issues with who I was and how I was handling any given situation. My hope and prayer as you begin to read this book is that you feel a sense of this is just what I needed at this particular time. I pray that you are able to see yourself in these pages.
During the process, I often heard, what makes you think you can write? What makes you think you have anything to say or that there is anyone who wants what you are offering? And then, I was reading People I met at the gates of heaven by Don Piper. In chapter two he wrote “What qualifies me to write this book? His answer was, I went there and I returned.” That’s my reason and authority. My answer is simply, I lived it and I returned me back to me. That’s my reason and authority. Be Blessed Y’all.
About the Author
As a licensed and ordained minister, Cynthia Hogue was called to the office of Ministry in 2005. She is a member of Visionary Christian Church of Alma, Arkansas where she has served as the Associate Pastor for 9 Years. She is a former student of Beacon of Light Christian School. At the heart of her calling is a passion to see women walk in intentional purpose and to understand who they are in the Kingdom of God. And, only with a thorough knowledge of kingdom principles can we fulfill the purpose that God has placed on each of us. Minister Hogue and her husband, Glen, are the proud parents of six adult children and 11 grandchildren.
