Feeling like an unwanted outsider made me want to cry, but I decided that I wouldn't let them do that to me. I wasn't going to give them control over my emotions anymore. I just wouldn't think about it. So, I kept myself busy all afternoon and evening: playing with Sticky, helping Mom with supper, doing my homework. I even cleaned my room! It was working, too. I was happily belting out one of my fave songs when I absentmindedly reached over to my book bag and took out the crumpled paper that Caleb had hurriedly stuffed in there. I opened it up to reveal the word LOSER scrawled on it in black marker. Dripping from the letters in red ink were drops that looked like blood. Horrified, I immediately dropped it on the floor as if the piece of paper itself could somehow physically hurt me.
This is what Faith found in her locker?! My stomach lurched then, and my heart was heavy. “Oh, no! It's happening all over again!” my brain screamed. “They're bullying Faith just like they bullied poor Marie!”
I picked up the paper reluctantly and looked at it again. No wonder Caleb is concerned, but what could I do? What could I tell him? I mean, I didn't really know who wrote the note. I only know that they were mean to Marie last year, too. I couldn't accuse anyone, then I would get in trouble. “Besides, why should I help Faith? She stole Kyle away from me,” a little voice in the back of my mind reminded me.
The rest of the night, though, I couldn't keep from feeling sad and guilty. I wanted to text Jade to see what she thought, but I knew that she would already be asleep by then. I decided to text Dakota instead. She wouldn't mind.
“Hi sis. Have ? about bullying. Need yr advice.”
I must have been really tired, though, because I fell asleep waiting for her answer.
