Growing up, I always thought of the Holy Spirit as a burden that would limit my ability to have fun and do things. So I avoided it for years due to fear and reluctance to take on the responsibility. OBut one minister (I don't recall who) said it accurately when he explained the Holy Ghost is a “security guard, not a parole officer.” When I finally received it I religiously attended Bible class and studied at home. I quickly learned I'd been deceived in my old way of thinking. A million dollars, believe it or not, is a lot of responsibility if someone gives it to you. That doesn't mean you should avoid it. Who would choose to continue living in a shack because they don't want the responsibility of keeping up a mansion? Not many! But for years I, like many others, settled for an inferior life. I had heard but it hadn't sunk in that the Holy Spirit was a valuable asset that would provide all of the assistance I'd ever need.

The price of the Holy Spirit is very, very high. Fortunately for us, Jesus paid the price in full. The only cost to you and I is our self-will, which, if we’re honest and see clearly, we know is our own worst enemy anyway. Another illustration to not accepting Jesus would be if somebody left you a 50 yard line ticket to the super bowl, wrote to you telling you how and where to pick it up, gave you transportation to get there, but you never bothered to pick it up. After I received the Holy Spirit on September 14, 2007, and began giving up my own will for His, I found out benefits are too many to list. More than a year later, I am discovering new perks all of the time and expect it will stay that way the rest of my life.
