In Revelation 11:15 we come to the third woe ushered in by the seventh and last trumpet. It is not one shrill blast over a moment of time, but some type of continuation. The third woe is actually the consummation of the age, and brings about the final judgment of mankind. We know this from Revelation 10:7 which says: “in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery shall be finished.”
The seventh angel and his sounding, and all the repercussions that follow thereafter, constitute the entire program and judgment of God until the final and complete redemption of mankind and planet earth, and the unveiling of the New Heaven and New Earth.
The days of the voice of the seventh angel will also include the seven bowl judgments that we will study when we come to chapter 16. Chapters 12-22 are a detailed description of what we find in Revelation 11:13-18. This passage covers everything involved (in just 6 verses) in the completion of the whole mystery of God -- the pouring out of the last seven bowls of wrath upon the earth; the battle of Armageddon; the Second Coming of Christ; the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom; the Great White Throne Judgment; and the New Heaven and the New Earth.
All of this will take place during the “…. days of the voice of the seventh angel”(Revelation 10:7). The kingdom is not actually established until the 19th chapter, but here in verse 15, we have a preview: “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in Heaven, saying, ‘THE KINGDOMS OF THIS WORLD ARE BECOME THE KINGDOMS OF OUR LORD, AND OF HIS CHRIST; AND HE SHALL REIGN FOR EVER AND EVER.’”
This is the prayer that Christians down through the ages have been praying: “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Those prayers are finally answered: “And He shall reign for ever and ever” (Revelation 11:15). This is the line that is repeated many times in George Frederick Handel’s famous anthem, the Hallelujah Chorus.
Verse 15 is actually a flash-forward to the end of the age. In the next few chapters, we are going to see some of the details of the vile and devastating results that happen because of the reign of the Antichrist. And so, in order to keep from being depressed about the awful things coming down the pike, John is given a view as to what happens at the end of the Tribulation when Christ’s victory becomes a reality. This is the event that all Christendom is waiting for.
The whole question of sovereignty will now be settled. Who controls the universe -- God or Satan? The issue has raged in the minds of people throughout the ages. Now the issue will be settled once and for all.
Believers everywhere look forward to the time when evil will be eradicated, and Christ will reign supreme over all the earth. The plant and animal life groan in travail, waiting the time for that awful curse to be removed so that things will return to what they were before man’s Fall in the Garden of Eden (Romans 8:19-21).

John Wayne Gaylord graduated from Wheaton College (Illinois) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a minor in Biblical Studies. After serving in the military as Commanding Officer of the 30th Finance Unit, Wayne entered the field of banking and venture capital from which he retired after 40 years. He holds a graduate certificate from the Southwestern School of Banking at SMU, and later served as a member of the faculty. Wayne has been a student of Bible prophecy for over 60 years.
