Week 1 Day 1

FOR THE BURDENED AND HEAVY HEARTED

Take a journey with us into the life you have longed to live. Find the power and freedom of the Holy Spirit working mightily in and through your life. Discover what it means to be a Disciple of Jesus Christ. Delight in the quality of life that Jesus called Abundant Life! Please join us in a simple approach to having our lives transformed into the very nature of Jesus our Lord.

Please allow me to share a few vital word meanings for this journey.

DISCIPLE: A person who is developing the character of Jesus Christ, Yah Shua, into his or her life.

YAH SHUA: Jesus is the Greek name for our Lord’s Hebrew name, Yah Shua. For the purposes of this study we will be using our Lord’s spoken name, Yah Shua, which is the name He was called while in human form on earth. Yah Shua means Yahweh Saves! (Yahweh is God’s personal name and is sometimes referred to as Jehovah.)

YOKE: A wooden beam that linked two animals of burden together and enabled them to pull together. This made their workload easier. When we put ourselves in Yah Shua’s Yoke, our Lord carries the burden of the load for us!

Week 1 Day 2

HUMAN NATURE’S DESIRE: Our fallen nature’s way of responding to problems and circumstances in life. This is the result of the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and has been handed down to all humans.

Read the following verses and think about what God is saying about how prevalent sin is in the human nature.

Romans 5:12

When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (NLT)

Psalm 14:3

But no, all have turned away from God; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not even one! (NLT)

LEGALISM: When a person attempts to please God by doing things.

According to the following verse how successful could we ever be in pleasing God in our own self-effort?

Isaiah 64:6

We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall. And our sins, like the wind, sweep us away. (NLT)

YOKEFELLOW: A person who mentors with us as an accountability partner. (On page 15 you will find a detailed outline of the responsibilities of the Yokefellow.)

Week 1 Day 3

A LIFE TRANSFORMATION

In Matthew’s account of the Good News, Yah Shua our Messiah gives us our primary purpose for living,

Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NLT)

When we become Christians, our lives start a dramatic time of change. We are a Believer the moment we accept Christ into our hearts. We become a Disciple of Christ as we learn to live a life of truth. This new life doesn’t come just through accumulating mental facts, but in acquiring the character of Yah Shua.

Consider what Paul says to the Church in Rome about the need to have a dramatic change in one’s entire life after coming to Christ for salvation.

Romans 12:2

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. (NLT)

This New Person Paul is talking about is Christ’s nature living in our lives!
