In April 1983, my niece, Leah, was visiting for the day and staying over night. Leah was sixteen years old at the time. We had gone shopping and out to lunch. We had a real good time. Having gone back to my house, I was reading an article on history, while Leah was listening to some religious records that she had brought with her.
After several hours of listening to religious music and sermons, I asked her to please play something else. Leah asked me, "Aunt Ellen, don't you like religious music?"
I said, "No, I don't believe in God or the devil. If the devil exists, he can have me. I believe in science and history."
We had dinner, did the dishes, and watched a movie on television. Leah and I went to bed about eleven o'clock that night. Leah slept with me since I only had one full size bed. Leah had stayed overnight before. Sometimes she would it me with her hand when she would turn over.
I was laying on my stomach and just starting to doze off. I felt a cold cloud starting at my feet and slowly moving up, engulfing my whole body. I felt something evil crawl into my ear. I heard the most diabolical laughter inside my head. Terrified, I screamed and jumped out of bed and ran into the living room.

About the Author
Author Ellen Cheryl grew up in a time when women were taught to be submissive and expected to become housewives and mothers. This was the so-called natural order, in which men were providers and women were caregivers. Facing a system that didn’t suit her inclinations, she struggled with issues of identity—difficulties she has overcome with the help of counseling as she rebuilt her self-worth.
