If we consider, much of modern thought seems to be around ideas like ‘burnt-out’; ‘run down’; ‘stressed’ ‘played out’; ‘exhausted.’ Equally, much money is being spent on adverts assuring us that we deserve a cruise, either because we haven’t retired yet or because we have retired. The fact is that many of us seem to be running around in circles trying to rest. Whether we believe in God or not, we have a physical need, at least, to rest. I am writing for those who do believe in God through faith in Jesus but who, as His children may be – as I have been – in great need of REST. But those who have not yet come to faith in Jesus are equally welcome to share the same journey.

About the Author
Janet taught French first in Hull and then at a Methodist Mission School in up-country Sierra Leone where she and her husband got to know each other. They were married in the UK in 1970. Malcolm became a Methodist Minister and a Chaplain RN. They have two daughters. Since retiring from paid ministry they have been working in ‘short bursts’ in Nigeria, Uganda and between 2015 and 2017 in the Kenya Methodist University.
