THIS TOO SHALL PASS[YT1]
Never would I have imagined I’d be in this place within my marriage and finances. As if this were not enough, my mother’s health appeared to be declining and my only daughter had left for college out of state. I was dealing with a knee and ankle injury and reinjured my back on the job as well as harassment and plain torture. As I sought medical treatment, it was very disappointing to learn there were health-care disparities among minorities. It was a time of such great tribulation for me. Surely I did some things right. Or did I? I thought, Has God forsaken me? Certainly He is still with me. After all, I
did just stop going to church. But I had a good reason. My injuries were so painful. I could barely stand the ride or sit or stand longer than twenty minutes without having swelling and increased pains in my body. The leaders in the church were playing politics. Monies given for tithing were not properly counted as contributions for my tax purposes.
I was asked to outline procedures for various new ministries and special events, which were then given to other individuals to pursue without explanation. The minister appeared to use the pulpit for personal agendas. People were not being healed, delivered, or set free. The church I was attending had no Holy Ghost fire. The atmosphere was stagnant. These were the saints and elders of the church. Who here can get the fire started? Are we playing church, or are we the church? Are we not the body of Christ? Who here can revive these dying branches? How do we restore life in the temple of God?
These were thoughts that would randomly attack me, causing me to question my worth and my value to God, family, friends, and society. I felt I couldn’t share what I was experiencing with anyone other than my husband because they had problems of their own and I didn’t want to burden them with my troubles. So I coped with these issues silently, while weakening both physically and spiritually.
However, I never lost hope in God. I knew that if He brought me to it, He’ll bring me through it victoriously. I didn’t know how He would do it, but I trusted Him to do it. My husband and mother would remind me often, “God will put no more on you than you can bear. Remember, this too shall pass. You will look back at this and say, ‘Wow, I made it.’”

About the Author
Where as, Tammy L. Phillips-Young has been married for nearly twenty-eight years, she has over 25 years of social service experience in various areas including church leadership roles, management, education, government, and law enforcement. A proud native of Marvell, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Minor - English from Philander Smith College. Tammy is also the 2008 winner of the Arkansas Top Fashion Designer Competition, where Korto Momolu (best known for Project Run-way, Season 5) served as a judge.
And where as, she enjoys excitement and challenges where there’s a cooperative team environment. She’s focused, disciplined, self-motivated and has a strong work ethic. Tammy takes pride in a job well done and ensures each task is performed efficiently and to the best of her abilities. Trust-worthiness, and dependability are strong qualities that she possesses and strongly believes that these elements of character are essential to any profession or obligation.
