Once upon a time, there was the tiniest, littlest black-haired baby girl born in a country far away on a day and time that only one person—or possibly two—knew about. They stared into her fragile face, and their hearts filled with fear, worry, and wonder of what to do next. A gaping hole filled the top of the inside of her mouth and left a long, open slit on both sides of her top lip. What to do? What to do? A beautiful, delicate, little girl needed so much care and so much medical surgery. They had a mix of throbbing emotions of wanting to hold and nurture the little baby while knowing she must be given away for her to have all that she required to live a better life.
