God, I cried. God I have never asked you before as I am asking you now to take me out of this job. I was being real with God. I was talking to him as a son speaks to his father with respect, but with a bit of frustration. God responded to me with two words and with a firm voice as a stern dad would. He simply said “Not Yet” I have learned by now to know God’s voice when He speaks. I have also learned that when He responds to me in such a manner, I need to listen, not ask questions, but just do as I am told.

He ranted on. He finally came to a pause and stared at me with eyes of a wounded animal. After an uncomfortable pause, I asked “so what do you need, money?” With his shoulders rounded, chest caved in and his face sadden, he was hesitant, but then responded, “Yes!” While he was talking, I was remembering a sermon which was recently preached by the bishop of my church. The intent of the sermon was as written, if you have it to give, give it. Matthew 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. I reached back to my pocket and pulled out my wallet. Without looking, I took out all the money I had in my wallet and handed him the cash.
It plays out in my mind as if in slow motion to this day. He took the cash and the expression on his face was full of surprise and gratitude. I can’t say that I have ever seen such an expression on another human being face ever before. He stated to cry, and he reached out and hugged me. All my thoughts of him being homeless and dirty went away and I hugged him back as if he was a long-lost friend or brother. He said thank you many times as we parted. He mentioned that he was going to spend the money to get a good night sleep and a shower somewhere. I said God bless you and continued walking on to work.
