Do you enjoy competition? Are you a runner? A swimmer? A biker? Well… do you have a heartbeat? Welcome to the human race!
An interesting way of envisioning our lives is by comparing them to a marathon we are determined to win. Our challenges represent goals and objectives on the way to the finish line. These goals, which may create stresses and difficulties, also make our lives invigorating and exhilarating.
The daily activities of our lives can rarely be compared to skiing down a smooth, snow-covered mountain on the slopes of the Colorado Rockies. More appropriately, life is like a roller coaster, with its ups and downs and curves of all shapes and forms. Though not always restful, this can sure make life exciting and thrilling. The challenges can be exhilarating at times, while terrifying at others.
Life can more appropriately be compared to a slip and slide on a summer day! One moment we are up and sliding forward, the next we are sliding on our backsides.
Only God knows where our lives will take us. With every step, we proceed through life attempting to achieve our desires; to be victorious and reach the goals that we have set for ourselves.
Amazingly, this often requires one thing – not that we compete, not that we run, not even that we walk – but that we stand – simply STAND. What an incredible accomplishment just standing can be, at times. Paul, the apostle, exhorted the Ephesians in this way:
“Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)
We can rest in Christ’s love, knowing that He will restore us and makes us overcomers. God is getting you ready for a new adventure. He is preparing you for the next chapter of your beautiful story. The Lord is creating a beautiful tapestry in you. You are a masterpiece…a conqueror in the making!

Life is a collection of opportunities and challenges. When combined, they create exciting adventures of our lives. Depending on our attitudes, the levels of our enjoyment are ever-changing. Adventures can be fun. They can also be tough... uphill climbs.
Determination. Resolution. Optimism. Mercy. A “Don’t Quit” attitude. These are just some of the character traits that Jesus creates in those who remain determined to trust Him as they walk out their adventures.
You are “more than a conqueror” in Christ Jesus. He will constantly make you victorious if you trust Him for your strength and direction when you face challenges. He will continue to do so in your future.
