We Have a Fortress in Christ
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
(Psalm 91:2)
Christ is our fortress a fortified place. He is the Word which is a fortress. We can count on Christ to mean what he says. If he says he will not forsake us, then we can count on that and stand assured he will not forsake us. Christ and his word are true and trustworthy. God cannot lie.
No matter what weapon is forged to destroy us, it will not succeed. The lies our enemy tells us are just that, lies and we can stand in God’s truth. When the enemy attempts to lift himself above God and convince us he is more powerful, we can stand on the truth that God is All Powerful and he is also Sovereign. When the enemy tells us that God is not going to provide for us, we can count on God’s provisions because he declared Himself as our Jehovah-Jireh. When the enemy tells us, God could not possibly love us after what we have done, according to Romans 8:31-39, we can reject that lie and instead embrace God’s love!
I have stood in that fortress many times in my life. I was caretaker for my mother who lived with me. The townhome we lived in had an increase in rent, but way beyond the normal, like a $500 a month increase. There was no way I could afford that with what I made. I shopped around and nothing available was even close to what we had. I wanted my mother in a safe place that was clean. God was my fortress as I trusted him to solve
this problem, though the enemy had a great deal to say to me. In the end, I was offered a new position with a $10,000 a year increase. This enabled me to qualify for a home loan. The Manager of the Townhomes asked me to stay with no increase in rent, but I told her I had signed the papers to our new home already. My mother enjoyed our home for the remainder of her life.
