The question of how much control an individual has over what happens in their life is an important theological question—one that has no simple answer to it. I have already discussed the complexity of human life in preceding chapters. I however want to highlight one important factor that makes life more complex, which I have reserved to discuss in this chapter in greater depth. Three entities influence our experiences of life that we need to be consciously aware of. These broadly manifest at three levels: (1) Divine influences, (2) human influences and (3) influences from evil forces. This leads us to the understanding that some difficult situations we encounter in life, are respectively; designed or allowed by God, some are as a result of human choices and actions (self or others), and still others are caused by Satan. This notion is well supported in scripture as will emerge in this chapter. It is therefore very important for believers to grasp this fact. This will empower them to explore life’s disconcerting situations with more insight, and furthermore equip them to respond to the situations more effectively. We will look at each of these three influences in turn.

Everyone will experience difficult moments in life. Sometimes situations are so overwhelming that our faith and trust in the Lord is ‘shaken’. It offers a practical framework for exploring and responding to life challenging situations of all kinds.
About the Author
Hartness is an Assemblies of God (AoG) of Great Britain minister with 18 years of Christian ministry leadership. He is leader and founder of Millennium Harvest Church (UK) which he has led for 10 years. His ministry experience includes pastoral ministry and church planting. Hartness has supported church planting in the UK and beyond. In addition to undergraduate studies in Biblical Studies and Theology, Hartness holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Theology (Christian Leadership). He has a keen interest in Practical Theology and his philosophy of ministry is pastoral at heart. He has over the years shared life with and supported many individuals and families from diverse backgrounds through various life challenges and situations. It is through these experiences, personal experiences and many years of prayerfully studying the Bible that enables him to be more effective at teaching and supporting people to face and respond to life challenges more positively.
,br/.Hartness has a health profession background. He has experience in and holds qualifications in nursing and healthcare leadership and management. He is reading for a PhD in Management with University of Hull Business School (UK). He draws from his professional, academic and ministry experiences to become the effective Bible teacher, pastor and leader he is. This strength is reflected in his book.
