The book is a real life story, her life story. Through it she opens up about her life, her struggles, the pain, the disappointments, challenges and obstacles she has faced through life. The experience of having a father addicted to alcohol and the pain this cause to her and her family. The difficult time of being stranded to a bed for over two months, and challenges she faced as she starts to walk again; even after she is told she might not recuperate her sensitivity on left side from waist down. The challenges she faces as she starts a new life as a 16 year old adolescent in a foreign country where she does not speak the language. How she overcame adversity and still manages to complete her Bachelors and Masters degree. Her failure to miserably fall short of her full potential when it comes to love, after discovering that her high school sweetheart and husband of over 9+years is cheating. She talks about how and what help her to overcome each and every challenge, obstacle, lost and disappointment. Desperate to try to help others facing the same issues of singleness, illness, betrayal, disappointments and other challenges, she is willing to open up her heart, her life and share with you the most painful episodes of her life. Her major motivation in sharing her life with you has been her desire to help young girls, women, and even men that are growing up, single or married and perhaps going through the most difficult and challenges times of their life, realize that they are not alone, that there is hope and that when you fight hard, give your best and keep going, you can over come any challenge you are thrown in life. That no matter your situation today, you can make the most of it now, today because we only live once, not wait until tomorrow. That the choices you make today, now will have positive or negative consequences, and that we all have the potential to achieve our dreams and goals. To motivate you to go after your dreams, to always give 100%. For you to know that you have what it takes to achieve them, you have talents, you have gifts that can be a blessing to others. For you to know that you are not alone, and that there is a friend that no matter what happens, He is always there with you and for you. For you to realize that you are the change that you would like to see tomorrow! That life is not what Hollywood sells you, that regular people just like you and her can make a difference in this world. That everything she is, has and will be is because of Him! It is a story of love, faith, hard work and optimism! To show that hard work pays off, that happiness starts within you. That love is real, beautiful and possible! About the Author
Sonia Michelle Veliz Alvarado was born in Guatemala, and by the time she was only fifteen years old, she had lost her father, her mother, and her younger sister. She and her brother were adopted by their maternal grandparents and brought to New York City, where they started a new life. In 2000, she completed her bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in international business, and in 2007, she received her master’s degree. Sonia is a daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, cousin, and friend, and she is an accomplished world traveler. All the sales and proceeds of Because We Only Live Once! will be going toward Sonia’s dream of building educational programs for children.
