When the boy and the man spotted Demonas, the kind man reminded the boy to never go near him. But the boy paid no attention to the kind man, and before the kind man could say another word, he ran right over to him. As soon as the boy was within reach, Demonas grabbed the boy’s arm. With an evil smile, Demonas announced that he would be taking the boy to his dungeon! “Unless,” he slyly said to the kind man, “Unless, you will take his place.”
The kind man knelt down and gently spoke to the boy. “You disobeyed,” he said. “You did not listen to me when I told you to stay away from Demonas. In fact, you never listen to me. I will always love you. When you’re good. When you’re bad. When you’re happy. When you’re sad. You deserve to be taken to Demonas’s dungeon, but I will take your place.”
The kind man walked over to Demonas. The boy was let go, and with hateful joy Demonas led the kind man to his dungeon. When the townspeople heard what had happened they began to cry. There would be no more flowers for the patients in the hospital, no more parties for the orphans, and no more father for the boy. But when the kind man entered the dungeon, Demonas ran into a problem that he had never had before.

About the Author
Natalie Bixler is a former Special Education teacher and current stay-at-home mom. She and her husband graduated from a small Bible school in Pennsylvania. Later, Natalie earned a teaching degree through Western Governors University. Her most memorable teaching years were in a one-room schoolhouse teaching missionary children in Mongolia. Christina Doell-Atha lives on the Minnesota-Canada border. She enjoys camping, snowshoeing, and other outdoor adventures with her husband and children. Caroline Robson is a homeschooling mom of five. She resides in the Midwest with her husband, children, and their many farm animals. Christina and Caroline enjoyed working as a team to beautifully bring this story to life.
