Prayer is not an option, but a must for every believer in Christ. Water is not more necessary to a fish than prayer is to a believer. You cannot take a fish out of the water its natural environment and expect it to survive on land. Where there is a live fish there is water – and where there is a live Christian there is much prayer. A fish and water are inseparable –¬ the same is also true of a Christian and prayer. A Christian who does not spend time in prayer is simply a dead Christian.
Prayer is a platform God has fashioned not only for fellowship with Him but to provide answers to a believer’s physical, spiritual and personal needs.
If you are not having your needs met it is most likely that you have not prayed and asked in prayer as you ought to. Take advantage of the prayer platform provided for you so that God may pay attention to your needs.
Many of us want to pray whenever we are in trouble or in need of something. Prayer is not a matter of; ‘Lord me this’, or ‘Lord me that’, or ‘Lord I need your help again’. To the contrary, prayer is a relationship with God through the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This relationship is only made possible through conversing, in prayer, with the Holy Spirit. The role of the Holy Spirit is to help you whenever you are weak to pray.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” (Romans 8:26)
Prayer requires a serious commitment on our part as believers. What makes many believers prayerless is a belief that once they become a busy person they cannot find time to pray. The devil instills this lie in individuals to make them feel justified by such reasoning.
The Devil knows that if he can keep you from praying, he will have succeeded. He will have managed to turn you into a carnal Christian. So no matter how tight your schedule is, always endeavor to make time for prayer as being busy should never be an excuse for not having time for prayer.
There is more to prayer than saying words like ‘Bless me, O God’ or ‘If you answer my prayer I will be faithful to give a tenth of everything that falls into my hands’. This kind of attitude needs to be eradicated if prayer is to become an act of worship and a means to relate with God in your life.
Prayer is a spiritual asset that every believer needs to utilise in order to claim God’s promises through faith. When you pray, you have to believe in God’s Word and trust that He will answer you as you seek Him. An answer to prayer is not dependent on the many words you utter or the length of time you spend in prayer but it is in how much faith you have in God and his Word

About the Author
Kenny S. Phiri is a Minister of God’s Word and he has been a full-time Pastor in Forward in Faith Ministries International since 1999. He carries a wealth of experience including working with the youths as a National Youth Pastor in ZOAGA FIFMI (Zambia) for over 10 years; and served as an overseer in Copperbelt Province (Zambia), Sydney (New South Wales) and currently in Darwin (Northern Territory).
He is the author of four books: Divine Favour - A Key to a Successful Life; Changing Morals, Attitudes and Sexual Freedom; a Christian novel based on a true story called Tears of a Girl Child; and the first edition of A Call to Prayer.
The first edition of ‘A Call to Prayer’ was published in 2014 and has helped many Christians rediscover their prayer life.
He holds a diploma in Biblical Studies and Christian Leadership from Africa Multinational for Christ College (AMFCC). Currently, he is pursuing some studies in Community Services with Charles Darwin University and BCA National Training Groups.
Besides writing and preaching, he has travelled around the world. He has been to Southern Africa, Australia, Tonga and parts of the UK and spoken at both conferences and crusades.
The goal of his ministry concentrates on promoting sound moral and ethical values, and transforming lives for Jesus Christ through the power of the Gospel. He and his wife Susan have been married for 16 years and between them have four children.
