A Guide on Seeking and Making Spiritual Orders

A Christian has the ability, in prayer, to make and issue various types of orders to deal with the numerous situations in his life. In fact, when you pray, you make orders without even realizing that you are doing it. This means that every Christian is involved in the business of seeking and making spiritual orders, whether you recognize it or not and even if some are more adept at it than others. If you have the qualification but are untrained, ill-equipped or lacking the skills, you may not be as effective an intercessor or a prayer warrior as you can be. As with anything, training brings insight, growth, understanding and skills which can make you a more effective prayer warrior. Understanding also that no one order is suitable for every situation will make you into a more effective prayer advocate or intercessor. So when you are making spiritual orders in prayer, to deal with problems for which the specific orders may not be available, required or capable of eliminating the problem, you are in effect praying ineffective prayers. It is no wonder why a Christian may find himself praying for years about a particular problem or need and not be getting answers. It is not always a case where the answer is delayed or not granted; it may simply be a matter where you have not prayed for the right order, so it will never be granted. Sometimes you pray for the same order that was granted in another person’s situation but it may not be appropriate to solve your problem. Check what you have been praying for and not getting a response to; see if a different approach or application for a different order might bring results and check if you have the right to seek that order of God. It is very much like praying amiss, if you are applying for an order that is not available in your situation then, you cannot get it. James 4:3 KJV says, “ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” If you apply for an order that will not be the right fix or the request comes from a place of selfishness or a desire to satisfy self, you may be denied it. So the reason or basis for your request will affect if you are granted it or not. Sometimes, you may need more than one order or to vary an order to make it suit your circumstances or a different order entirely to what would have fixed a similar problem. Grounds
Every order sought in the earthly court must be based on valid legal grounds, that will be recognized by a court of law and, it is the same way with the heavenly court. Do not be fooled into believing otherwise; it is time for Christians to start understanding, operating on and applying kingdom principles correctly, including principles relevant to guiding your approach and behaviour before the heavenly court. A ‘ground’ refers to the cause or reason or basis for bringing your application or request before God, which must be valid and not contrived or made up. For instance, you do not just pray or seek an injunctive, restraining or dismissal order without having a basis or ground for so doing. Now, do not get me wrong, you can glorify God anytime and anywhere; you can engage in a prayer of thanksgiving at any point; you can pray soft prayers to maintain communication with God at any time; you can praise and worship at will but there are certain types of prayerful engagements, where there must be grounds for doing so. You do not jump willy-nilly or haphazardly into spiritual warfare, without a cause. Prayers of thanksgiving do not require the use of strategic warfare devices; but when you want to seek a specific order of God, you must have spiritual grounds or a cause. By this, I mean that you must have sustained a wrong (spiritual attack) that provides the ground for you to approach and request an order, whether dismissal, restraining, injunctive or otherwise. Now, we usually have grounds when we come before God to do battle but do not even think of it like that. But now, God wants us to put ourselves in the ‘knowing’ of what we are doing; this helps to sharpen our warfare skills. ….
The Bible refers to ‘praying amiss’, which is the biblical concept for praying without grounds – it is a baseless, unfounded ground or a non-existent cause for approaching the throne in prayer. In the earthly court, if you have no ‘cause of action’ that is the ground for filing the claim, your case will be thrown out. It is the same in the heavenly court but it is called ‘praying amiss’. …
Orders are specific, so we need to know how to pray targeted prayers and how to issue the correct order for the problem to avoid having to return to amend or vary the order obtained. This means that as Christians, we must become adept at identifying, seeking and making the right orders or on how to pray solution-oriented prayers. It is time for Christians to stop being ‘Whirlwind Prayer Warriors’ and ‘Tornado Intercessors’ where you are interceding but everything is spinning chaotically out of control and keeps circling around at you. It is time to calmly and confidently issue the orders to deal with the storms you are caught up in. Then, accept by faith that the order, having been issued, is sufficient to dispose of the matter in terms as directed therein. Become an ‘orders expert’ by learning how to craft, apply for, ensure you are entitled to and can identify which order is appropriate for your problem. This spiritual acumen can only be obtained with the help of the Holy Spirit.

About the Author
Martha Lynette Alexander is an author, attorney at law, teacher and Master of the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago but believes that it is her relationship with Jesus Christ that is, by far, her most significant accomplishment. She was born in Trinidad and Tobago, and has used the pen to highlight troubling societal issues and to teach persons of all ages to write properly. In 2008, she published Language Alternative: For Teaching Writing Skills, in the United Kingdom. She is currently an adjunct lecturer at the Law School in Trinidad and Tobago, where she teaches on crafting and issuing legal orders among other things, so when the call came by God for her to present Him as order; she was able to provide a unique and interesting perspective on spiritual orders. She also served as a Bible School lecturer and youth ministry leader in the past and, at present, mentors young men and women in crisis. Martha would tell anyone who is willing to listen that when she gave her life to Jesus Christ at the age of nineteen; it was His to use to bring glory to His name.
