JEHOVAH NISSI-The Lord is our Conqueror Exodus 17:15-16
Moses used this name to declare that God would always conquer the enemies of His people as long as they obeyed the Lord, they would have victory. Moses learned that when he believed God, he conquered.
God has always mastered in making a way, where there seemed to be no way. He said “Call on me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things” We read in Exodus where God says “I AM come down to deliver you out of your affliction.” Some of you are being afflicted. You are in a battle, Satan is fighting you tooth and nail. The devil is your enemy. Jesus said “the thief cometh not but to steel and to kill and destroy.” God said in Exodus “I WILL BRING YOU OUT.” When God tells you that He is going to bring you out you can believe it. Because He’s the God of Battles! He will step in and fight for you.
Going out of Egypt the children of Israel had been in bondage for over 430 years. When Moses requested that they go out to the wilderness and worship God. Pharaoh got mad with them and said make them work harder, make them realize where the boss. I want to tell you that God came on the scene and said, “I have surely seen your affliction and I have heard your prayers and I Am come down to fight your battle for you.” The God of Battles step down an said, Egypt you may be big and you may be powerful and you may hold a lot of gold and wealth. But when I speak something is going to give. You see the God that we serve, He knows how to put the devil on the run.
The Cloud represented the Presence of God.
Whenever they saw this cloud beginning arise, they began to blow their trumpets and to sound the alarm. The children of Israel come up to the Red Sea. It’s at full tide and they can’t get across. There standing there and murmuring, a lot like us when things look impossible. If something doesn’t happen at the drop of a hat we get mad and say, see God can’t do nothing for me. That’s the attitude of a lot of Christians. God will make a way; He will see us through. They stood there with mountains on both sides. The wilderness and Pharaohs army marching up their back in chariots. Running as hard as they could at Israel. They got to singing the blues, “there weren’t no graves back in Egypt?” You should have left us alone Moses making slush and mud. You see God wanted to bring them out of that. Just like God wants to bring you out and show you that he will fight the battle for you. Here comes Pharaohs army, its dark, and they can’t see anything. In the Old Testament God was that pillared of fire by night and that cloud by day. That pillared of fire was leading them. Everywhere that pillared of fire went, they went with it. “Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered” Moses would sing and the watchers would blow the trumpets and sound the alarm. That pillared of fire is what led them to the Red Sea and between two mountains and Pharaohs army behind them. They were lead to a place that seemed impossible to get out of. All of a sudden, this light that was in front of them went up and back over their heads, over 2 million people and cast a light over the Red Sea. It was light to the children of Israel, but it was a hindrance to Pharaohs army. God wanted them to see the miracle, God doesn’t hide what he does. Moses said “stand still an see the salvation of the Lord.” We need to stand still and watch the light. That movie the 10 commandments had them crossing with water lapping around their feet is wrong. It says they cross on dry ground. I believe the wind dried out a major highway. One lady said it was just a little foot path about 4’wide. Do you realize how long it would have taken 2 million people to walk sing file, they might still be walking. They got across in one night, two million people. Scholars say that in order for them to have crossed in one night, God would have open a path 5 miles wide. That water froze on its banks just like Jell-O. The children of Israel had gotten threw and they looked back and saw Pharaohs army and they worried they were going to die. God spoke to the wind and it cease, and the waters fell on them. They began to run and God pulled the chariot wheels off their chariots. While they were drowning in the Red Sea the children of Israel were beating tambourines and singing how God drowned Pharaohs Army. We’re passing through the Red Sea, were heading to that City, to a land that flows with Milk and Honey. God is going to see that we make it through. You may find yourself fighting against all odds or a lot of people, but He’s the God of Battles.
