Following His Lead
I’ve been writing poems for some time
There’s something special about making words rhyme
I often write when I can’t find a card
Making them personal and appropriate is not hard
I’ve been inspired from my morning read
Often it’s there where God plants a seed
And sometimes when I’m asleep at night
A new idea comes to light
I then proceed to write it down
To hear more of the rhyming sound
My sister is my sounding board
Through her encouragement, my writing soared
She says it’s a gift from above
I know it’s an expression of God’s love
I’ve never written so much before
It seems as if God is opening a door
For Him I will continue to write
Praising God in poems is my delight
Praying that my poems will life someone
Reminding them of all God has done.

About the Book
This book contains Christian poems inspired from daily devotionals, dreams, observations, and memories. My life experiences are the basis for many poems. Writing these poems has been a labor of love. It is my desire that the readers will be enriched, lifted, encouraged, and reminded of God’s love as they read them.
About the Author
Avar Hurd James was born in 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee.
She earned her B.A. from LeMoyne Owen College, M.A. from the University of Memphis, and Ed.S. from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. She has taught in Memphis City Schools and is retired from Alcoa City Schools in Alcoa, Tennessee. She also served as an Educational Consultant with the Tennessee Department of Education.
She has been actively involved with Bible Study Fellowship and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is presently a deaconess at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Avar and her husband reside in Maryville, Tennessee and are the parents of Will, Chris and Ashley, and the grandparents of Ashton, Gabi, Camille, and Brooklyn. This is her first publication.
